At the time, this song was a change of pace for Rimes. She had released two very traditional sounding country songs, as her first two singles, but then changed it up with this more modern tune. "Ticket" is a uptempo coming-of-age song about facing a breakup and getting over it. The song has heavy pop influence, unlike Rimes' other songs on Blue.
However much pop influence it had, this song reached No. 1 and is a great song. It has a dance-friendly vibe, and it's understandable that Rimes wanted to change it up a bit. Her vocals are as strong as ever, and apparently she recorded the song in one take, which is very impressive for a fourteen year old girl. The song really fits Rimes' vocals, and makes it seem like maybe she does belong in pop music. The one drawback of this song is the age appropriateness of the lyrics. It's easy when hearing Rimes' vocals to forget how old she really was at the time. But in this song, she sings, "I'm going to have my breakfast with some pink champagne." Although this is a good song, It doesn't fit to have a young, teenage girl to be signing about champagne.
