Bio: Once known as Sweet Aliana, country music duo and best friends Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye, known as Maddie & Tae have made waves in the country music scene over the past year. From Texas and Oklahoma respectively, the two women met before they were out of high school, and have been writing for their record since then. They were unsigned when they wrote smash hit “Girl in a Country Song,” and when Big Machine Record Label CEO Scott Borchetta heard the song, he snapped them up as fast as he could and signed them to his new Dot Records revival label. Their song climbed to the top of the charts, and was followed by the Top 10 single “Fly.” They went on tour with Dierks Bentley over the summer and released their debut record Start Here at the end of August. Their new single “Shut up and Fish,” is now steadily climbing up the charts.
Contributions to country radio: Maddie & Tae were the inciters of this movement for more women on country radio. Their song was a bold statement, and was so well received that it was carried to No. 1. They opened the discussion about why there really was such a discrepancy between men and women on country radio, and why there still is one, in 2015. They were the trailblazers, and really said what everyone else was too scared to say. Maddie & Tae have also brought a more old school sound back to mainstream country music. Their debut single was slightly more pop and hip hop influenced, in order to slightly parody the bro-country songs out there, but "Fly" and "Shut Up and Fish" have added another layer to country radio.
