Bio: Carrie Underwood is the biggest star to come from American Idol, and the biggest female country star right now, and she's held both of those titles for many years now. From "Jesus Take The Wheel" to "Undo It" to "Smoke Break," Underwood has been dominating the country music industry from 2005 to today. Her career has resulted in 16 No. 1's, five No. 1 albums, seven Grammys and 13 nominations, as well as countless CMAs, ACMs and more. The pop appeal of her music has resulted in songs charting pretty high on the pop charts as well as the country charts, with "Before He Cheats" hitting Top 10 on the Hot 100, and many others hitting Top 20, and of course her winning American Idol song going No.1 for all genres.
Contributions to country radio: Carrie Underwood is the biggest female star in country music, and she is also the most consistently on country radio. There was a period of time where every single she released to country radio went No.1, from "Before He Cheats" in 2006 to "Just A Dream" in 2008. That's incredible, especially for a woman. She continues to break the radio's unwritten 'no women' rule, and the songs she released these days, even if they don't get to No.1, get pretty darn close. She's added a girl power element into the otherwise very misogynistic format of country radio. Her biggest song ever was a song about smashing her ex-boyfriends car because he cheated on her. If that doesn't scream girl power, I don't know what does. Carrie Underwood has been an inspiration for the next generation of female country artists because of her voice, but also because of her success. Underwood shows women that they can do what men can, and that they deserve a place on country radio.
