The art of a simple mini-movie music video has been lost in recent years. In a world of the dance-heavy videos Beyoncé and Bruno Mars are releasing, along with the extensive and slightly confusing videos of Taylor Swift, simple music videos are rarely done and under appreciated. British singer/songwriter Megan O’Neill’s new music video for “Ghost of You” is a storytelling video at its best.
Director Declan Creffield expertly crafts a story of a couple who have been through so much together, but recently fell apart. Actors Morwenna Hocken and Tom Claxto play their parts beautifully, demonstrating the undeniable love between this unlucky couple. The real beauty of the song and video is that there is some ambiguity about what ends up happening to the couple. O’Neill says this was intentional.
“I wanted this video to end with the viewer still not sure whether or not there is a happy ending — in the same way that the lyrics are unexplanatory,” she said. “You'll see what I mean! It has certainly been a new experience having a full story board music video and me not being in it! But it's been such a fun process and everyone involved did an incredible job.”
“Ghost of You” is O’Neill’s follow up to her last single, “Why I Need You,” as well as the second song from her new forthcoming full-length album.
