“Once In A While” shows another side of Hackett’s artistry, following the euphoric and uptempo “Nostalgia.” The video was filmed at the Scarritt-Bennett Center, which is Hackett’s church in Nashville. She’s backed by a string quartet and an acoustic guitar player.
The content of the song is a different form of nostalgia, but not neccesailry the happy kind that she discusses in her debut radio single. This nostalgia is more painful, the kind of hurt that it’s hard to think of even once in a while. While “Nostalgia” praises the past, “Once In A While” remembers it, but with more pain. The juxtaposition between these two tracks is a mark of a great artist, and an interesting hint of what’s to come.
