Kelsea Ballerini entered the country music industry with two No. 1's, but both for fun, flirty pop country singles that weren't quite able to show the extent of her ability as a country singer or songwriter. Her newest single and the video for it show the country music industry that Ballerini is more than the persona she exuded in her first two singles: she is a serious, and incredibly talented singer/songwriter.
"Peter Pan" is the first serious video that Ballerini has ever released. The "Love Me" video was cute and flirty, and the "Dibs" video was a tour video, but "Peter Pan" is the first emotional and serious single that Ballerini has released, making the serious and incredible video fitting.
Before and after the video, Ballerini has two short monologues, about the relationship and the man who she called a "Peter Pan." She says:

"He always had to feel the rush, the heartbeat, the speed. He had a passion for things he knew could hurt him, but he never stayed long enough to get hurt. Sometimes, I guess he found that feeling with me, and the other times, he found it being lost.....Life with him was an adventure. But sometimes, an adventure just has to end for a new one to begin."
With these speaking moments, there are definite comparisons to Taylor Swift videos, especially some of her more recent ones like "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "Out of the Woods." There have also beem some Carrie Underwood comparisons.
But Ballerini should take those comparisons as an enormous compliment. This song is up there with the best singles from Swift and Underwood in quality, and so is the video. Ballerini is growing up musically, as the boy in the video refuses to do, and this video is the perfect video to show the industry that she is talented, will be a star, and a force to be reckoned with.
