Sarah Darling's record Dream Country was released last December, but here's a chance to get a new look into the making and inspiration behind the record. From Darling herself, we go song by song through Dream Country.
"Wandering Star" (Sarah Darling, Zach Runquist, Andrew Petroff)
Getting lost can be a good idea. Some of the greatest surprises have happened in life when I was least expecting it and had no plan. This song is about not knowing what the future holds, but knowing something amazing is around the corner.

"Where Cowboys Ride (Sarah Darling, Zach Runquist)
Music has taken me to so many wonderful places in my life. From the moment I laid eyes on Wyoming, I saw a real life painting. This song captures the essence of just how beautiful it is. It’s a nostalgic feel about a simpler time and there’s realization in the lyrics of God’s beauty that shines through. Life gets overwhelming and sometimes you need an escape to find some stillness and this is truly mine. From the golden fields to the sky full of million stars, I hope you go there in your mind. This song is my love letter to Wyoming.
"Anchor" (Sarah Darling, Sam Palladio)
I had the honor of co-writing with Sam Palladio from the ABC show “Nashville” on this project. He grew up on the coast of England in a place called Cornwall. We wanted to capture a sweet song about him missing home in the UK. You will be immediately taken seaside and want to fall in love.
"Tell That Devil" (Emery Dobyns, Matthew Mayfield, Jill Andrews)
We’ve all been in a bad relationship as some point in our lives. This song represents the one that stole your energy and joy. It’s a reminder we never want to go back there. The good girls always find this bad boy in the journey.
“Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” (Johnny Marr, Steven Morrissey)
When I heard this song for the first time, I cried. Every single pleading word I have been able to relate to being in the music industry and know that I’m not alone. It’s not always an easy road, but without the rain you won’t ever see a rainbow. I’m grateful I get to live my dream, even through the ups and downs of it.
"Starry Eyes" (Sarah Darling, Jessica Campbell, Minnie Murphy)
This song feels like a big hug. It’s a letter to your younger self with some good advice bout how to deal with life. I’ve always been a free spirit and a dreamer and never want to lose that optimism. Imagine that twinkle in your eye is contagious to anyone who sees it.
"Montmartre" (Sarah Darling, Jennifer Bostic)
My favorite part of Paris is a little place called Montmartre. The cafes are charming, the painters are painting and it captures the most beautiful view you’ve ever seen. This song is about my unending love affair with the city of Paris, and the reason I started Sweet Darling Patissere and bake macarons.
"Halley’s Comet" (Sarah Darling, Cheyenne Medders, Rebekah Powell)
I’ve always been a stargazer and a dreamer. As you grow up, fear can change the way you dream, and it’s easy to forget why you do what you love. The world can bring you down, and It’s especially hard when you feel like what you want is happening for everyone else. I’ve realized everything has a way of working out at just the right time. Just like Halley’s comet, she comes back around shining bright even when she goes away for a bit. We are all forces to be reckoned with you just have to believe you will have your time.
"You Take Me All The Way" (Sarah Darling, Tyler Flowers, Cheyenne Medders)
This song transports me back in time to cool club in NY with a torch singer. Patsy Cline and Sinatra have always been favorites of mine. I wanted to write a playful love song with that classic feel which is a bit part of my personality. You will want to put on some fancy attire and listen.
"Stargazer" (Jesse Terry)
This was the last song recorded on the album, and hit me deep inside the moment I heard it. It has two important messages to me. Not being afraid to let go and the strength of moving forward. These are two hard subjects for being a human. Whether you are battling sickness or feel trapped in a situation, this song is your lullaby to get through. I hope it brings encouragement.
