If you read this blog, or even know the title, you know we don't normally cover pop music. But for this artist, I decided to make an exception. Imagine the lyrics and acoustic-based sound of Gabrielle Aplin, with the soul of Adele and the attitude of Miranda Lambert. That's Taylor Noelle. Noelle is a singer and songwriter based in Nashville, and she's also got this really interesting pop-soul sound that I believe everyone should hear, including country music fans.

Noelle's debut project, Out of My System, was produced by Andrew Conner at Iron Oak Studio, and he really does a killer job on this EP. Noelle switches back and forth from badass to vulnerable, badass to vulnerable. There's this idea that as an artist, if you put out this image of yourself as being one way, you can't do anything else. But Noelle proves on this EP that it can be a cohesive project while still exploring different emotions and different sounds. The best albums are the albums in which every song is distinct and sounds different from everything else, rather than having every song just be a variation of the lead single. This EP achieves that.
One of the major highlights of the EP is the second track, titled "I Fall." It was written by Noelle by herself. It is a sharp contrast to the song it follows, the uptempo "Too Good," and it also contains some of the best lyrics on the project. Noelle's voice is delicate and powerful, and this song proves her abilities as a vocalist as well as a songwriter.
The third track "Won't Waste My Time" has this cool change in tempo at the bridge that adds another level of sassiness to the soulful song. Noelle wrote this track with her father, Charles Esten. About the song, Noelle wrote that "it was a lot of fun to write, and a rather unexpected song to come from two people both in wonderful relationships." It's another girl power song, reflecting the message of "Too Good." The two different perspectives introduced, the girl power in the first and third tracks, and the vulnerability in the second and fourth tracks create an overall message of the EP: when it's not meant to be, there's a reason. And when love is good, embrace it. Noelle is young, but she creates a mature and powerful message through only four songs. Imagine what kind of music and message she could craft on a full record! I, personally, can't wait to see.
