This is a rough worktape. Mickey Guyton didn't even know it was being recorded, proved by her adorable, "Are you recording? Oh sh*t!" at the end of the track. There's background noise, and both busbee and Guyton don't completely know the words or the melody. Even with all of those factors making this not the best recording ever, this tiny song buried in SoundCloud is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
Both Guyton and busbee sing the lead, only occasionally splitting into harmony. It has a bit of an R&B flair, even in a simple, acoustic form. The lyrics are pretty simple, but they are so effortless with the list of questions in the chorus feeling so natural and honest:
"Why does time do what it does?
Why does love break up?
Why did you have to leave?
How do I let go of your side of me?"
It's pretty likely that this has just been forgotten by the writers, and Guyton is not planning on cutting this song, but she should. This is the kind of song that country music needs, and all music fans need to hear.
