At only 20 years old, McKenna Faith has already performed and opened for some of the biggest names in country music, and has sold records like no other independent female country artist. The sales of Faith's album We LIke Trucks, released in 2013, gave her the title of the Top Selling Independent Female Country Artist on iTunes. Hailing from California, this young woman has a powerful voice, strong lyrics, and a little bit of country sass all mixed together to create a unique sound. This is her debut single to country radio, and could end of getting some serious recognition and airplay in the months to come.
In musical style, McKenna Faith has changed since her last offering, Let's Get Lost, in June 2014. That album and the ones before it had a more throwback style of country, a more nineties style. It was a refreshing change, with the modern country influences woven into the more traditional songs. This EP, Seal it With A Kiss, is a change of pace, with more pop influence, and an overall more modern sound. This song is the lead single from that EP, and perfectly demonstrates her more pop-country sound, while still staying true to her roots.
More than anything. McKenna Faith has an undeniably addicting voice. Like country superstar Carrie Underwood, her voice is the thing that truly brings attention to her as an artist. This was shown even from her first releases, and all the way to this one, her first official radio release. On the EP, this is one of the most striking songs, because of Faith's vocal delivery, and also the topic. Faith brings in her signature sass and a girl power element in the vein of rising country star Kelsea Ballerini. She croons, "If you want it / really want it / you gotta work it / work for it." She's saying that if this man wants her, he's going to have to make her want to stay, because she's not easy to win over.
Faith continues to impress. This song has already been picked up by any radio stations, and seems poised to do quite well. This is the kind of song that are doing well for the ladies these days, and maybe in a few months, the name McKenna Faith will be right up there with Kelsea Ballerini, Cam, and Mickey Guyton as country's most promising new women.
Overall rating: 4 and a half crowns
