Clare Dunn is one of the artists that Miranda Lambert has pinpointed as her favorite new stars. She was one of the opening acts for her Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars tour, supporting her new record Platinum, along with longtime friend Ashley Monroe, RaeLynn, and Courtney Cole. Along with Lambert, Dunn has opened for artists like Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban, and Hank Williams, Jr. This is her third single, following her debut single"Get Out" and "Cowboy Side of You", but this is her first single to truly begin to rocket her into rising country stardom.
While this song is not exactly country, it is also not pure pop or rock either. Dunn's style is a mix of country rock and power pop/rock. She has a surprisingly low voice, in a deep tone that isn't often found in country music, but still has the twang on her vocals. She's also a master guitar player, and shows off her skills on the recording of this track, and at live shows and performances.
Confidence has been a trend for women singers recently. For so long in music, women have been portrayed as weak, easily swayed, and indecisive. But in all forms of music today, the women are stepping up to the plate. In pop music, Demi Lovato is coming out with an album named Confident, and Taylor Swift is constantly supporting strong women in music. In country music, Kelsea Ballerini brought it in with "Love Me Like You Mean It," and many artists are following suite, like Mickey Guyton, Olivia Lane and others. In this song, Dunn is a picture of confidence, saying that it's time that this man makes his move on her, cause she's tired of waiting. Dunn incorporates a pop music, and modern concept into a country rock song with remarkable ease. This just could be a hit.
Overall rating: 3 and a half crowns
