Hinted at slightly in my profile of Brooke Eden in the 'Women to Watch 2016' list, "Daddy's Money" is Eden's story. It was not written by her, but by friends that were thinking of her when they wrote it. Those friends were Kallie North and Jessy Wilson of the Muddy Magnolias, who wrote a song that perfectly describes Eden's values in life and in music. Her doctrine is "work hard, use what you have and never ever rely on someone else for your success." Eden didn't have her success bought for her, she worked hard, and that hard work landed her on Red Bow Records's roster (BBR Music Group) and now she is making her debut record.
"Daddy's Money" itself is a rock and blues influenced track. The money sound effect at the beginning of the song adds an almost comical element, making fun of those who get everything they have because their family has money. Eden's influences range from label-mate Jason Aldean to Shania Twain to Etta James. This song reflects all of those influences, from the rock heavy production, to the girl power element, and her powerhouse vocals. "American Dreamin'" was an introduction to Eden's outstanding vocals, but "Daddy's Money" shows the extent of the power behind Eden's voice.
Releasing this song as her debut single says something about Eden's character. It's not a love song, and it's not a bro country song. But it is a country song. A song about real life, and how even though she didn't have lots of extra money to throw at a music career, Eden made it. It's also a girl power song, and Eden is an example of what all of the up and coming women in country music should want to be like. Eden worked against the odds, and achieved all she has because of pure talent. There aren't enough people in the music industry who can say that..
Overall rating: 4 ½ crowns
