Stacy Stone is a young singer from California, but she has already made waves in the country music scene. She has been invited to open for Sara Evans, Ronnie Dunn, Thompson Square, Lee Brice, and Brett Eldredge, just to name a few. Her EP,Tangled, is set to come out soon. This track, "Bein' Someone's Mine," posted on SoundCloud about 5 months ago, is the track that drew me to Stone's music and made me fall in love with her voice. This song is a country-pop ballad, and tells the heartbreaking story of a woman who has gone through a breakup and keeps telling herself that she'll be fine, when she really is not okay.
The chorus shows the denial of the woman the best, when Stone sings,
"I'll be fine,
Cause I don't even like,
Bein someone's mine."
It is a short phrase, but Stone sings it in dejected manner, as if she doesn't believe any word coming out of her mouth. That is what makes this song so powerful - the intended conflict between the lyrics and Stone's vocal delivery.
Stone's range is absolutely incredible. In this song, she goes into the whistle register, which is rare for singers in general, and almost unknown in country music. The whistle register is usually saved for artists in the pop/R&B genre, like Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande, but Stone sings in whistle just as well, and maybe even better than the pop singers.
Stone is absolutely incredible. She has the emotion and lyrics of country music, the powerful vocals of pop, and the kick of rock. There is nothing Stacy Stone cannot sing, and nothing she cannot do. Stone will achieve so much in her career, and I look forward to hearing what she puts out next.
Overall rating: 5 crowns
