Never have there been two young singers who voices fit together so well. Winter's and Gibson's vocals fit together like Kenny Chesney's and Grace Potter's, who have been working together for years now. Gibson's soprano and Winter's low, gravely voice together create a warm sound, that is easy on the ears, and listeners will to listen to over and over again. Their voices also fit the story of the song very well. The basis of the song is that the man in the relationship is 'whiskey' and the woman is 'wine', showing the drastic differences between the two of them.
Similar in topic to "Cowboys and Angels" by Dustin Lynch, Carter compares his flaws to his lover's good qualities, pointing out that even though they are complete opposites, and seemingly completely wrong for each other, they are hopelessly in love with each other. The song begins and ends on the same lyric, a beautiful songwriting tactic that brings the story in a complete circle. Carter sings,
"I'm a little more country,
You're a big city girl.
I'd rather stay home,
You wanna travel the world."
These lyrics begin the track by introducing their differences, as if saying why they could never work. But after the song is almost over, and there have been so many comparisons and the declaration that they "fell in love like Johnny and June," this lyric comes back around and completes the song with a new perspective on how these differences are what actually make the relationship amazing.
Carter Winter wants to "make people dance, make a difference and make people enjoy themselves." With this song, and the rest of his EP, Winter could do just that.
Overall rating: 4 ½ crowns
