The last non-bro country song Jason Aldean has had was "Fly Over States" in 2012. It's been three years of his bro country songs cluttering up the airways. The worst one, "Burnin' It Down", unfortunately stayed at No. 1 for fourteen weeks. Fourteen weeks of his EDM, pop, creepy song playing on COUNTRY radio stations, where it most definitely didn't belong. You don't see stations playing Taylor Swift's "Blank Space", do you? And she was once a country artist, just like Aldean was until he released "Burnin' It Down."
This track, although not a good song at all, was a nice change. No more drum loops and disturbing lyrics penned by Florida Georgia Line, and instead his typical guitar heavy country rock production. The best part of the song is the beginning, where it starts off soft, and then about 10 seconds in, the guitar jumps in. The production of this song is overall pretty good, for country radio standards. It's interesting, and although normal for Aldean, is a change of pace from the other tracks on the radio.
The lyrics are an issue, though. Written by Rhett Akins, Chris DeStefano, and Ashley Gorley, this song is just another bro country song, leaving Aldean in a rut. It's the same kind of lyrics that almost every male singer these days has and lumps Aldean in with them. It's disappointing to see Aldean put in that category with many way less experienced artists.
Another disappointment from Aldean. Hopefully, he will begin to come out of this trend soon. Please.
Overall Rating: 2 crowns
