The reason this song is so unique is because it sound the same as a lot of old country. That doesn't seem unique at all, but in this day and age of country music, anything that sounds even remotely traditional is unique. Now this song, is something I could see Alan Jackson recording. The concept is nothing new, and the lyrics are nothing astounding, but Pitney's vocals, and the throwback production make this an amazing track.
Although not original, this song is incredible. Pitney's voice has a very satisfying tone, and is one of those voices that you want to listen to over and over again. There are many high male voices these days that are a bit grating on the nerves, but Pitney's voice is anything but annoying. He has that classical style that few country singers have these days. This song has almost no potential as a crossover hit, which is a relief, because there do need to be some of those truly country songs on country radio.
I love the lyrical content in this song. Pitney describes everything I personally love about country music, and what draws most people to country music. Country music can be everywhere, as the chorus says, when Pitney sings,
"Country can be in the middle of a city
Country can be on a farm,
Country ain’t even a place on map,
it’s a place in your heart"
Country music, if it is as great as this song it, does hold a place in your heart. Pitney hits the nail on the head with this track, and hopefully, country radio will be welcoming to it.
Overall rating: 4 and a half crowns
