Natalie Stovall of Natalie Stovall and the Drive is best known for her powerful voice, her girl-power attitude, and her hair. Although her hair does attract quite a bit of attention, her band, her voice, and her attitude what make her stand out as a new woman in country music. Their new EP, Heartbreak, is a collection of six songs, venturing from uptempo pop/country tracks celebrating heartbreak, to slower heartbroken songs. Natalie took the time to say something about each song on the EP, so read on to get a little blurb about each track straight from the singer herself!
"We Are” is my anthem. I dedicate it to all of those out in the world that are ever told they 'can’t' do something. Believing in yourself and not giving up on your dream is something I know a little bit about, so I poured my heart out on that thought in this song. This one makes me feel like I can conquer the world when I perform it.
“Heartbreak”: What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. That’s heartbreak in a nutshell! It focuses on the positives that can come from whatever is breaking your heart at the moment — a relationship, your career, your health — when you come out on the other side, you are so much stronger because of it.
"Dear Dolly": I wrote 'Dear Dolly' with Ruthie Collins and Jessica Roadcap. If there was one woman in the world we wish we could get one-on-one advice from, it would be Dolly. I doubt there’s a scenario out there she hasn’t been through! So this is our open letter, our homage, to one of country music’s most iconic ladies.
"Girl Tonight" - I feel so powerful when I sing this song. It’s from the perspective of a woman who knows exactly what she wants, and though the guy in the story doesn’t realize it yet, he’s gonna want her back. Before he realizes it, he’s gonna fall in love with her and who knows if she’ll still want him by the time he catches up!
"Not Goin Fishin" - This is such a fun song about hanging out, fishing, and just having a good time. I actually wrote it after I came across a letter from an ex boyfriend where he was recounting a fishing trip we had taken. Apparently, I had caught a really big bass and he was super impressed. I had NO recollection of this date at all, which is what sparked the idea for the title “Not Goin Fishin”.
"Pour You Out" - This is a song about that person you just can’t seem to get away from. It is the person you always go back to when you are weak even though you know he or she isn’t good for you. That’s where the hook “I’m gonna Pour You Out like whiskey” comes from. I need to be done with you once and for all.
