Their third single overall, and second official single to country radio, with "My Someday," country trio Runaway Angel is poised to blow up. Often compared to the Dixie Chicks, these girls have proven themselves yet again that they have what it takes to be superstars. The girls' debut single was the sweet "Our Story," but they have since moved past the love songs into the more empowering songs, about just taking the plunge and going for it, whatever you may be trying to do. This light country pop track is the follow up to their radio debut, "Run Angel Run."
Although this song is good, it doesn't quite hit you like its predecessor did. Many artists believe that if something is good, and becomes popular, then why mess with a good thing? That kind of ideal worked with Kelsea Ballerini, who followed up the pop-country "Love Me Like You Mean It" with the equally poppy and catchy "Dibs." But in this case, "Dibs" was actually a better song than "Love Me," so Ballerini effectively outdid herself. Runaway Angel attempted that with "My Someday." However, the problem is that "Run Angel Run" is such a high quality, the girls weren't quite able to outdo themselves like Ballerini was able to do with "Dibs."
But if this hadn't been the follow up single to "Run Angel Run," this would be a fabulous song. The trio takes the idea of people having things that they're going to do 'someday' and saying, well, why wait for someday when you can do it now? Hunter Hayes recently took this idea into song form as well with "Someday Girl," although his was in the form of love song, not an inspirational anthem. Vocals are a highlight on this track, and emphasize the fact that all of the girls have incredibly strong and beautiful voices. Their voices together are just a pleasure to listen to, and will hook potential fans in.
Runaway Angel's EP is set to be released in early 2016, and is sure to be filled with empowering songs like this one, and also other ones that will solidify Runaway Angel's standing as the country girl group of tomorrow.
Overall rating: 4 crowns
