Last Friday, one of country-pop’s brightest new stars dropped a music video for her current single, ”Can’t Think Straight.” Lena Stone, a Nashville based singer and songwriter, released the song late last year, following up her debut single, “Nervous”.
Filmed on Music Row in Downtown Nashville, Stone places more emphasis on the country of her country-pop label in this video, as this version of the song isn’t the version you’ll find on iTunes. The released version is big and bold, filling up your headphones or your car nicely with a full, pop-country sound. But this version is a little more stripped down. Sans the synths, Stone’s voice is the center of attention.
But this isn’t just a video; this is a performance. Stone’s voice is powerful and emotional, but her face is what makes the video. She’s expressive, telling the story through her words and her facial expressions. She’s not strutting on a stage, but even behind a microphone in a studio, Stone puts on a great performance.
