Half-way through July, and SoundCloud is bursting with great new songs and demos. Read more to listen to our favorites of the month and quick little descriptions of the songs.
“Expectations” by Maddie Larkin: A voice made for pop music, but an affinity for country music, Maddie Larkin followed up her infectious debut “45” with this slower track. The pop-influenced snap track is accessorized with country instrumentals and detailed lyrics, creating a truly unique country-pop listening experience.
“Miss Each Other” by Baylor Wilson: Written by Wilson, Emily Landis and Nathan Chapman, Wilson tells the story of a brand new relationship. She preaches the value of time apart even in the honeymoon phase over pop-influence production.
‘The Hummingbird” by Olivia Rudeen: In a Lori McKenna-like fashion, Rudeen and cowriter Jake Etheridge compare life to different aspects of nature. While the production sounds a little more Sheryl Crow than country, this is a country song through and through.
“You Belong in a Bar” by Maria Hassel: Aspiring songwriter Maria Hassel paints a compelling tale in this song, of a man who wants her when he needs her help, but isn’t as good to her as he should be. The lyrics explain the way she keeps giving him everything he needs, even when he doesn’t deserve it. It’s a sad tale turned into a beautiful song.
“Teenager” by Molly Brown: Brown has a new take on the ‘love makes you crazy’ theme so common in country music in this song. “Love is a teenager” she sings in the chorus of the song, describing all the similarities love has with our old crazy, past adolescent selves. The production is uptempo and fun, an addicting combination when paired with killer lyrics.
