Cassadee Pope entered the country music world after winning The Voice in 2012 on Team Blake. But she was in the music world already, part of the rock band Hey Monday. She released her debut solo country album Frame By Frame in 2013, with the lead single "Wasting All These Tears" reaching the Top 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart. She has been teasing her new music for a while with the "Let Me Go" snippet and playing multiple new songs at live shows. This is the lead single from her now unnamed sophomore effort, expected out sometime later this year or early next year.
Pope has always had a hybrid of country music, with the pop rock influences always clear in the music she has released. She has spoken of her influences and how this song came together:
I grew up singing country music, that's a huge part of who I am, too, but I've always had that rock edge. And I don't want to ever neglect that, because it wouldn't be authentic to me. So this song feels really empowering and inspirational.
This song, however, is pure pop rock, but has the mandolins clucking along throughout the entire song and the girl power element that artists like Shania Twain brought into the mainstream. Vocally, Pope is incredible, as always. She sings high throughout the song, but before the last chorus she goes impossibly high. It is almost as impressive as Danielle Bradbery's note in "I Will Never Forget You." Pope never fails to impress in that area.
The closing track of Frame By Frame was "Proved You Wrong," a defiant anthem to an ex and to everyone who believed she would never make a name for herself. This is a continuation of that song, but Pope is now saying, anything that gets in my way from now on is not going to faze me. She's inspiring as well, with the triumphant element to this track. This is a song that everyone will be able to connect to, and especially for the girls, it will become their anthem. Pope has hit on a nerve that everyone feels with this song, making it an automatic hit.
Overall rating: 4 and a half crowns
