"Gypsy," the title track, is the most country song on the EP, and one of the best. It's mostly acoustic, like a lot of White's music, and describes White's life and a singer. It's obvious why White chose this song to be the title of the EP, because this song is her life - it is what most people can never understand about her because she is trying to pursue music career and they are not. The song itself is Dixie Chicks influenced, with the need to be free, but also Taylor Swift influenced with the powerful lyrics and the self-awareness White shows in this song. White's vocals are the strongest on this track. Her vocals in general are beautiful, and have a lot of commercial appeal, but this type of song fits her vocals the best.
"It took some time to figure out,
I've laid my cards in the table and I'm all out.
I can't let you keep letting me down,
And if you felt the same,
You would have kissed me by now."
There is an honesty that is so hard to write about in this song that is only found in country music. This track is also a lesson to other girls in the same situation, with lyrics like "sometimes love is bigger than it seems, it's as simple as asking what the other needs." This song is absolutely beautiful.
The EP ends with "Love Somebody Like You." It's hard to end an EP with a slow ballad like this one, because unlike the previous ballad, this song doesn't build up, but this song actually works excellently as a closer. This track is about looking at a man that you know just wants to be friends and wondering if he'd ever really fall in love with you. Discussing getting out of the friend zone, "Love Somebody Like You" details the struggle of wanting to change a relationship that's been completely platonic up until that point. It is another common song topic that White knocks out of the park, making it a heartbreaking ballad, instead of an awkward song about being in the friend zone.
White has created such beautiful music up until this point. It's difficult to switch genres, but White does it so gracefully with this EP. There are songs on this EP like "Gypsy" and "I Thought You Were the One" that truly belong on the radio. As White continues honing her sound and making powerful music like the music on the EP, she will surely get there.
