As everybody in Nashville is currently obsessing over Carly Pearce, I thought it would be fitting to throw it back to a song that Pearce wrote and recorded a few years ago.
"First Rodeo" is addressed to a girl suffering through her first heartbreak. Pearce likens the heartbreak to a rodeo, continuing the metaphor throughout the song, with lyrics like, "Those boots look new, those jeans do two, guess they needed breaking in." The song sounds more old-school than the music Pearce is making these days, with a little bit of Texas Country flair, from a Kentucky girl.
Instead of being a sad song or just reflective, the song has underlying tones of positivity and possibility, indicating that this is the girl's first rodeo, and it's not her last. But the first one is the hardest, so it only gets better from here. The beauty of sisterly songs like these is that Pearce is able to be standing there giving this advice, meaning she got through it. It's empowering, well-written, and a great song to hold you over until Pearce releases her debut record, currently in the works!
