Haley and Alexis are twin sisters from Atlanta, Georgia. They both came to be musicians in different ways, but they ended up creating Haley & Alexis Band, featuring Chris Love on drums, Tony Waite on guitar and Dennis Stevenson on bass. With the motto, "Go big or go home," and the "80's band mentality" in which the whole band is a team, this band led by two powerful girls is sure to rock the charts. This single "Firestorm" is the first single off of their newest EP, titled "Haley & Alexis Band." As an introduction to the band, this is the perfect song.
This single, coming off of their debut self-titled EP is a classic representation of the band's country/southern rock sound. Starting off with an electric guitar lick, this song's production reflects its girl power message. It is amazing to see so many female artists starting off their careers with empowering anthems like this one. Haley & Alexis Band join the up and coming artists releasing empowerment anthems like Kelsea Ballerini, with "Love Me Like You Mean It," Mickey Guyton with "Better Than You Left Me," and Danielle Bradbery with "Heart of Dixie."
This track "Firestorm" is true to it's title: it is fiery. The song continues the extended metaphor of the girl in the track to a firestorm, with lines like: "I'm a fever when I get into your head/ticking time bombs/cross the wires and you're dead." The Band slips a little ode to music among the somewhat insane lyrics with "only music are the words I left unsaid," adding a more honest feel to the track.
The rock and roll kick in the production, including the guitar solo after the bridge elevates the song to new levels. Comparisons could be drawn to music by Brantley Gilbert, and Eric Church's latest record The Outsiders, but also to Miranda Lambert, with the amount of sass and kick-ass that went into the track. Haley & Alexis Band meshes the southern rock influence with the message that many young female artists these days have been sending: that they aren't going to be messed with anymore.
Overall rating: 4 crowns
