I've been listening to this track for about 6 months now, at least listening to the demo version. Megan & Liz released the demo of "All the Way" a while ago on SoundCloud, and I assume it was supposed to be on their unreleased album Look What You Started, before their old label Collective Sounds closed. So obviously the track was not new to me when it was released, but I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the final version. It shows Megan & Liz fully embracing their country sound, and evolving from their old teen-pop pop/rock sound.
The production in this track is the most beautiful production I've heard in a country track in a while. There's the pop influence and pop hook, but still all the country instrumentals, like the mandolin and banjo and other instruments that aren't heard on popular country tracks anymore. The original demo of this song had just the acoustic guitar and violins, but having the rest of the instruments adds so much to the whole song.
In a song with lyrics like "we fell asleep with the Skype still on" and "you think in pretty in sweatpants and Uggs" that make it on the verge of teen pop, the addition of these beautiful country instruments give so much and make the track stand above the rest of their songs. On their debut county EP, Simple Life, there were county instrumentals, but not the blatant use of them as there is in this track. If Megan and Liz continue to produce their tracks like this one is produced, they could create a beautiful country pop album that would stand above all the others.
The vocals in this track also fit the situation the lyrics tell perfectly. The chorus and bridge have both of them singing together, making them sound more pleading. The bridge ends in a little solo by Liz, which works perfectly. Out of the two of them, Megan has the more powerful vocals, but Liz's are sweeter, and when she sings, "Give me your heart, before we go too far," she makes the last chorus more powerful and meaningful.
Megan and Liz's production on their tracks has gotten better and better with each release. I can not wait for their next single, because I'm sure the production will be even more flawless than it is on this one.
Overall rating: 4 crowns
