Hot off the heels of releasing a lyric video for her last single “Somewhere Drinking,” Lexie Hayden is dropping a new song, an upbeat track entitled “Go To,” premiering on Queens of Country before its official release tomorrow.
Hayden is a singer/songwriter from Virginia, with a knack for descriptive image-based lyrics. “Go To” is the fourth release from her upcoming EP, You Heard Right. This follows the release of “Wish You Would’ve Cheated," “Relit Cigarette" and “Somewhere Drinking," all three which will be on the new EP.
“Go To” isn’t a new write; Hayden said she wrote it back in 2017 with Stone Aielli and Adam James.
“It was actually a song that I wrote before I even met my current producer ... it just missed the last EP, and just held on to it for a really long time,” Hayden said.
“When it came time to start cutting songs for all my new music with my new producer, it just still stuck with me and I was like, I just think this song is awesome. And it's so upbeat and fun and relatable that I think it's perfect for this project, even though it's so old.”
Hayden said that “Go To” is the “upbeat, fun song” the EP “really needs."

The sound of the song and her new music have been influenced in specific by Kacey Musgraves, but also by many different women in the country music scene.
“I'm a big female country fan, which I'm sure most of us girls are. I listen to a lot of Kacey, a lot of Maren Morris, Kelsea, all of those people,” Hayden said.
“We wanted to keep it fresh but also [have] somewhat of an old school country sound, something that's still unique to me so everyone knows that, you know, it's a Lexie song.”
The plans for the EP and this single haven’t been untouched by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Coronavirus has sure put a little spin into all my plans,” Hayden said, adding that “Go To” was supposed to come out a little sooner. But she said that despite the situation, the EP is supposed to come out in the next couple months, ideally early summer.
“I think the main thing that we wanted to do with all this music is just really create a buzz behind Lexie Hayden, and get people talking about me, get people talking about the music, and try to grow everything we could organically,” Hayden said.
But with the music industry on somewhat of a pause due to the global pandemic, Hayden said that what she wanted originally looks a little different now.
“No one's really taking meetings, going into labels, all that kind of stuff, everyone's Zoom writing. So, I'm not really sure. But the original goal was to really just to be able to walk into a label meeting and be like, ‘Look what we've built on our own.’”
