For Memorial Day, Nashville-based artist Carissa Leigh is honoring our veterans and fallen soldiers with her new song, "At Night."
Country music has a tradition of honoring veterans and fallen soldiers through song, but with this new song, Leigh focuses on not the physical fight of a soldier, but the mental fight. In "At Night," Leigh tells the story of a man who has returned from war, but even in the "land of the free," all of the haunting images from war come back to him at night. This isn't uncommon. According to RAND, 20% of veterans today suffer from Post-Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or depression. For many, this means their battle isn't over when they come back home. The song addresses a delicate topic, and Leigh sings it beautifully.
